Say NO to Payday Loans!

Have you ever been called by a payday loan collector and when you got off the phone did you want to barf because they made you feel sick to your stomach?  Well if you answer YES then you have the payday loan blues!  If you got caught in the trap of having to get a payday loan, then in most cases you keep having to get them.  One day you will have so many that you can no longer pay the money back, then those obnoxious collectors will start threatening you.

Payday loans are evil and should be outlawed.  Who ever heard of giving money for a week at 99.9% interest?

That’s right, loan sharks and the Godfather!

Say NO to payday loans.  Do whatever you can to have money in savings for that rainy day.  Even if you set aside $25.00 per week, you’re putting something into savings so that if you come up short one week, you don’t have to give in to the sharks!

How do you handle those screaming kids in the toy store?

Why is it that children scream and holler when they don’t get something that they want at the toy store?

Why is it that children will be sweet as can be then all of a sudden when you tell them NO they turn into the incredible hulk?

Have you experienced this will kids?  Have you experienced it with adults?  That’s right, even adults have temper tantrums when they can’t have something, or when they’re told NO.  But with adults usually they’re told NO from their spouses or their credit card companies when their card declines.

But what about kids?  Why does this occur?  Well its simple, they expect it and when they don’t get it, it’s an injustice to them.  Kids that get pretty much whatever they want when their little without DOING anything in return can cause you a lot of trouble.   One day you decide that enough is enough and you stop giving them whatever they want because as they get older, they want bigger, brighter and more expensive things, but they expect you to always say yes, like you used to.  Those children, when they’re young are not expected to do anything for the things they get except a laugh and a smile.  As a parent it makes you feel good to give your kids stuff when they’re little.  But as they grow up, it changes to be unbearable and expensive and your kids end up being spoiled and expecting those things that you used to give them.  So how do you handle this with your kids so that it’s their piggy banks that you’re taking the money from and not yours?  Well first of all, have your kids do something for the money or things that you give them, don’t give them things without them doing something for it.  Even Christmas and birthdays, make sure that they are saving their money and getting something for you as well so that they do something for you and you do something for them.  Do you see?  So here are some tips to help you as a parent and as an adult that will help you in the future with people that get a little grumpy when money’s involved.

1.        Don’t go to the store and buy something new for your child as a reward if they haven’t done anything for it.  And DON’T buy the reward before they DO that thing.  This is an important point, if you buy them something that they want and tell them when they get home that they have to DO something for it, they will inevitably take advantage of you and not do it because they already got rewarded.  I don’t know about you but I’ve never been paid before I did the work!

2.       Have a point system, or money system worked out for your household where a child can do certain things to gain money, like chores etc.  It’s better to give them the option on what they want to do for their money then you making them do something that they don’t want to do.  Once the money is earned, go out and have them buy something they want, they will be more appreciative of it.

3.       Acknowledge them!  How good a job they did or thank them for their help.  Ask them to help you with things around the house and smile at them for their accomplishment.  Even if the child is one, they can help.  If they make a mess, let them help you clean it up, if they want to help around the house or in the garage, let them, they want to do things for you.  If you don’t let them because you are afraid they are going to make a mess or screw something up, find something that they can do and let them do it.  The more you tell them not to help you the more resentful they are going to be and the more they will NOT DO anything.

4.       Encourage them to work, allow them to work and be supportive of them and soon you will have children or spouses that are happy and winning in life because they are doing things for themselves that contribute to what they want in life.

REMEMBER, to LET THEM HELP and make their own money.  Reward them for doing something helpful to you or your household and be happy that they are doing it.

5 Steps to a Better Financial Life

When credit cards were born in the early 50's people were nervous to use them.  They were worried about how they were going to pay and were consciencious about where their money was going.  People understood the value of a dollar and even the value of a penny because in those days penny's were actually worth something.  Now days people walk by quarters on the street and have no idea how much money is in their pockets.  Boy how times have changed.  We as Americans are hundreds of millions of dollars in debt and still climbing.   When does the climbing stop?    When is somebody going to do something about it? When are we going to get off our asses and confront this thing head on? When?  I ask.   Today I say. Here are 5 steps that you can take right now to start taking control of your finances and your life. 1.  Sit down with your credit card statements and look at them.  I mean really look at  them.  What is the interest rate you're being charged, what is the balance owed, the minimum payments and the amount of years its going to take to pay them off?  Look at them. 2.  Now write it all down in colums on a piece of paper, excel spreadsheet, kitchen wall, dresser, cabinet or any other useful place that you have around the house that you can use.  Write with anything, a pencil, crayons, pen, eyebrow pencil, lipstick, shaving cream, or finger paints.  Write down how much you pay in minimums, your total interest rate, how long its going to take you and how much you spend per month. 3.  Once your mouth is closed and the drewl is wiped from your chin, from the information, start writing down all of the other things that you spend money on every month.  I'm talking everything, from coffee to diapers, shaving cream to ice cream rent to chimney sweeps.  Keep writing and writing and writing.  Once you have put everything down look at it, are you crying, yelling or laughing histarically?  I thought so, you should be.  This is the hardest part and you did it!  Well done!   4.  Now, find every source of income that you have, from newspaper routes to payroll, from tips to child support, from garage sales to selling lemonaide, everything and write that down. 5.  The final step is to compare and see where you're at in the whole scheme of things.  How much do you spend and how much do you make and what are the differences.  Confront it, look at it in essence, be it!  You will find that you are more in control of your finances and your life.  Remember to do this every week and every month, know what you have and what you make,  and believe it or not, your life will be better! How to create YOUR AMERICAN DREAM!!

What is your American Dream? I used to think that it had everything to do with having things, like houses, cars, money and literally a white picket fence. It has nothing to do with any of those things. It has to do with YOU. You make your own dreams by BEING who you want to BE, by DOING those things that you DO based on who YOU want to BE and in turn you will have a full and RICH LIFE where you HAVE that dream based on you. Not what advertisers tell you that you're supposed to have based on the newest, shiniest, most megabytes or the latest and greatest! Your dreams will make you who you are and those dreams will make you that person. Other people's ideas of what they want you to be do NOT make you who you are they make you a robot in their scheme to control you. Don't listen to the bull shit from other people to influence you, listen to yourself, Find your own American Dream within yourself, BE that person that you want to BE and you will have your American Dream! The Debt Lady Says, "Dream the impossible dream, the only one that matters, YOURS!!!!"

Plan for it now, so no regrets later.

I got a call the other day from a survey taker, who asked me if she could have 10 minutes of my time. I don’t always, but I decided to take the call. She wanted my opinion on Christmas spending--how I thought the economy would effect people’s spending this holiday season, and if I thought the latest increase in the national debt would have anything to do with holiday spending. I gave her my opinions on the subject and hung up the phone

Unless you don’t own a TV or radio, you’ve likely heard about our government’s troubles over the past few months regarding the national debt. In May of this year we hit our “ceiling” at $14.29 trillion. Essentially we, as a nation, maxed out our credit limit. Congress had until August 2nd to come up with a solution. The solution proposed was a package of budget cuts and an
increase in the debt ceiling--a $2.4 trillion increase that allows more borrowing into 2013. This is all still in the works, and I’m sure we’ll continue hearing lots more about it.

This roused my interest so I logged onto the US Debt Clock.org website. The figures that our government owes are mind boggling. But what I found even more interesting is that the “total personal debt” owed by American consumers actually exceeds the national debt. American consumers owe over $16 trillion. The government’s solution is to raise their credit limit, and worry about the consequences later. But what about you? Will credit card companies continue to raise your credit limits when you hit your ceilings on your credit cards? Of course not!

There's an old saying that was inscribed onto a sign on President Truman's desk back in the 40's: "The Buck Stops Here." This was meant to indicate that he didn't "pass the buck" to anyone else, but accepted personal responsibility for the way the country was governed. Our current administration seems to have misplaced that sign, but that's another story. As consumers we have a personal responsibility to ourselves to do something about all of thisdebt we've accumulated. Stop using credit cards! Make purchases on a "need to have" basis, and only buy it if you have the money for it. This is definitely the way to go. You can make a difference in that debt calculator by personally taking responsibility for your OWN debt.

Back to the subject of Christmas. Start planning for it now so you won’t have to pull your credit cards out at the last minute. Take advantage of sales between now and then, pay cash and stash it. Tuck money away every week so that you have it available in December. If you do a little planning now, you won’t have those regrets in January and February when the credit card bills start rolling in.
